Shopify Developer UK
UK shoppers expect next-day delivery, prices in pounds with VAT included, and returns that are easy to start. Since April 2025 the CMA can also fine businesses directly for misleading reviews or hidden fees, which turns some common Shopify app settings into genuine liabilities. Skill Align is a Shopify agency for UK brands that builds stores to meet both sets of expectations.
As a Shopify Partner working entirely remotely, our Shopify experts support brands in London, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh and across the UK. Request a free Shopify store audit to see where you stand.
Shopify brands we've worked with
British shoppers are experienced online buyers with little patience for friction. These are the checkout and product page details we prioritise in Shopify conversion rate optimisation for UK stores:
The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 gave the Competition and Markets Authority power to fine businesses up to 10% of global turnover for breaching consumer law, without first going to court. Several of its rules land directly on review apps, pricing displays and urgency widgets.
This isn't legal advice, and your solicitor should review anything borderline, but here is what we check in a UK Shopify build:
Under PECR, non-essential cookies such as advertising pixels need consent before they're set, and the ICO expects ‘reject all’ to be as easy as ‘accept all’. The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 relaxes consent for some low-risk uses, including certain analytics, but its changes are being phased in, so check current ICO guidance before switching anything to opt-out.
On Shopify, we connect your consent banner to the Customer Privacy API so Meta, Google and TikTok pixels load only when they should, and configure Google Consent Mode v2 for your ads. For email, the PECR ‘soft opt-in’ can cover marketing to existing customers about similar products, provided they were given a clear chance to opt out when they bought. Your Klaviyo forms and checkout marketing tick-box need to reflect that.
Yes, but Brexit turned every EU parcel into an export. The customers who feel it most are those handed an unexpected VAT and handling bill on the doorstep, and many simply refuse the delivery. If Germany is your biggest EU market, our page on Shopify for German brands covers its extra requirements. Wherever you sell, plan for:
Shopify has fields for HS codes and country of origin. Filling them in properly speeds up customs and gives your carrier accurate commercial invoices.
For consignments up to €150, registering for the EU's Import One-Stop Shop lets you collect VAT at checkout, so the customer pays nothing extra on delivery.
The UK-EU trade agreement only removes tariffs on goods that meet its origin rules. Products made outside the UK may still attract EU duty, which is worth building into your euro prices.
Shopify Markets gives EU shoppers euro prices, rounding rules and local-language content without a second store, while your UK storefront stays in GBP.
Goods moving to Northern Ireland follow their own arrangements under the Windsor Framework, so check how your products and carriers handle NI addresses.
Most UK brands blend carriers: Royal Mail for letterbox-friendly parcels and tracked services, Evri for value, DPD where a one-hour delivery window justifies the cost, and locker networks for convenience. We set delivery rates and cut-off messaging in Shopify, connect your label tool or 3PL, and make sure tracking reaches customers.
The Consumer Contracts Regulations give online shoppers 14 days to cancel after delivery, and refunds are generally due within 14 days of the goods coming back or proof of return. Separately, the Consumer Rights Act gives a 30-day right to reject faulty goods. Your returns policy, order emails and returns portal should say the same thing, and Shopify's self-serve returns can handle much of the process.
We don't have a London office, and we won't pretend otherwise. We're a fully remote team working across time zones, with calls booked within UK hours on GMT or BST. The set-up works: one complete Shopify store for a UK-based DTC brand was delivered end-to-end in 11 days, entirely remotely.
Landing pages start from about £240 and full custom Shopify stores from about £760, each scoped individually with an itemised proposal within 24 hours. If you need ongoing help rather than a one-off project, you can hire a dedicated Shopify developer or set up a Shopify maintenance retainer.
Got Questions?
Budgets follow scope rather than a price list. Landing pages start from about £240 and full custom Shopify stores from about £760. After a free 30-minute discovery call you'll receive an itemised proposal within 24 hours, so you know exactly what you're paying for before any work begins. Post-launch support is always included.
No. Skill Align has no UK office; we're a Shopify Partner whose team works fully remotely. We work with brands in London and across the UK, hold calls within UK working hours, and write up progress between meetings so nothing stalls. Everything UK-specific, from VAT display to cookie consent, is handled within the build.
If you're VAT-registered, yes, and UK consumers expect prices to include it. Registration becomes compulsory once your taxable turnover passes the threshold set by HMRC, and some brands register voluntarily before then. Shopify can display VAT-inclusive prices and apply different rates to zero-rated products; your accountant should confirm when you need to register.
That depends on how the app is configured and used rather than which app you choose. We check that incentivised reviews are labelled, that negative reviews aren't filtered out, and that nothing presents invented or paid-for feedback as genuine. We can't give legal advice or guarantees, but we can make sure your set-up doesn't create obvious risks.
Simpler builds usually launch in 7-14 days, and a fully custom store generally needs 3-4 weeks from discovery to launch. The fastest projects are those where products, photography and copy are ready on day one, so we agree a content checklist at the start and flag anything that could hold up your launch date.
Yes. If your store works but has grown slow or cluttered with apps, we start with a free audit covering speed, conversion and compliance basics such as cookie consent and price displays, then prioritise fixes by impact. Small tasks typically turn around in 48-72 hours, and ongoing work can move onto a maintenance retainer.
