Custom Shopify Themes
Most Shopify stores end up looking like their theme demo, because nobody had time to design around the brand's actual products, photography and customers. Our Shopify theme development service changes that. We design and build a custom Shopify theme, or rework a premium one, so your home, collection, product and cart templates are shaped around how your buyers decide.
Everything we ship is Online Store 2.0 native: JSON templates, sections your team can rearrange in the theme editor, and content driven by metafields instead of hard-coded copy. It is fast by default, accessible and documented, so your marketing team can launch a campaign page without opening a ticket.
Shopify brands we've worked with
There are three honest ways to get a better theme. The right one depends on your catalog, your budget and how far your brand needs to stand apart, and we will tell you which we would choose in your position.
Best when a Theme Store theme already covers most of what you need. We rework layouts, typography and sections and add the missing features, while keeping the code close enough to the original that vendor updates stay manageable.
Dawn and the newer Horizon theme family are lean, well-maintained foundations. Building on one gives you clean, standards-based code and fewer surprises than a feature-heavy premium theme, and saves weeks compared with starting from zero.
The right call when your merchandising is unusual: bundles, product configurators, very large catalogs, editorial storytelling or a design system shared with other channels. Every section and setting exists because your store needs it.
Online Store 2.0 changed how a Shopify theme should be built. Templates are JSON files that reference sections, so merchants can add, remove and reorder content on any page, not only the home page. We build with that architecture instead of fighting it.
A theme is software your business runs on every day, so we treat it that way. Code lives in GitHub, connected to Shopify through the GitHub integration and Shopify CLI. That gives you full version history and lets us build on an unpublished theme while your live store keeps selling.
We write modern Liquid with the render tag rather than the deprecated include tag, keep JavaScript small and framework-free where we can, and run Theme Check on every change. Images go through Shopify's image_url and image_tag filters so phones receive appropriately sized files. Our target is sub-2-second load times, and each build is checked against the Core Web Vitals thresholds we use in Shopify speed optimization projects.
Accessibility is built in rather than bolted on: semantic headings, visible focus states, keyboard-friendly menus and drawers, alt text wired to your media, and color contrast checked against WCAG 2.2 AA.
Not directly, which surprises a lot of brands. Since Shopify retired checkout.liquid, checkout changes go through Checkout Extensibility: branding settings in the checkout editor plus checkout UI extensions. Plus stores can add extensions to the information, shipping and payment steps, while every plan can extend the thank-you and order status pages.
We design the storefront and checkout as one experience, with matching fonts, colors and trust messaging. When a requirement goes beyond the theme, such as custom discount rules, delivery options or cart validation, we pair the build with custom Shopify app development on Shopify Functions. Shopify currently limits custom apps that contain Functions to Plus stores, so on other plans we find or extend a suitable public app instead.
Promo copy, banners and size charts typed straight into Liquid files, so every text change needs a developer. We move them into settings, metafields and metaobjects.
Snippets from apps uninstalled long ago, still loading scripts on every page. We find and remove them, and favor apps that use app blocks.
Heavy, undocumented edits mean vendor updates cannot be applied without losing work. We document each change or consolidate it into custom sections.
Layouts designed on a wide monitor, then squeezed onto phones. We design and test product, collection and cart templates on real mobile devices first.
We scope every project individually rather than selling fixed packages. As a guide, a custom landing page or campaign template starts from $300, and a full custom Shopify store from $960. Smaller Shopify theme customization work, like a new section or a reworked product page, is usually turned around in 48-72 hours.

Our Process
Got Questions?
A full custom theme typically takes 3-4 weeks: discovery on days 1-2, design on days 3-7, development on days 8-18, and QA and launch around days 19-21. Customizing an existing theme is quicker, often 7-14 days, and small changes such as a new section usually take 48-72 hours. Your live store keeps trading throughout because we work on an unpublished copy.
If a Theme Store theme already matches most of your layout and feature needs, customizing it is usually the better investment. A custom theme makes sense when your products need unusual page structures, when you spend more time fighting the theme's code than using it, or when speed and brand differentiation justify starting clean. We will recommend the cheaper route when it is the right one.
Yes. Because the theme is built on Online Store 2.0 sections and blocks, you can add, reorder and hide content on any page in the theme editor. Structured content such as size guides or ingredient lists lives in metafields and metaobjects that you edit in the Shopify admin, and we hand over notes on what each section does.
Changing themes on Shopify does not change your product, collection or page URLs, so the redesign itself rarely puts rankings at risk. The real risks are dropped on-page copy, missing structured data, a broken heading structure and slower pages. We carry over titles, descriptions and content, keep product schema intact, and compare Core Web Vitals before and after publishing.
Yes. On Plus we also handle checkout branding and checkout UI extensions alongside the theme. For most brands a well-built Liquid theme is faster to launch and cheaper to run than a headless Hydrogen storefront, so we only recommend headless when there is a clear reason, such as a complex content platform or an app-like experience that Liquid cannot deliver.
The main drivers are the number of unique templates, custom features such as bundle builders or product configurators, how many languages and markets the theme must support, and whether design starts from scratch or from existing brand guidelines. Content entry and app integrations add to it too. Every quote is itemized, so lower-priority templates can move to a later release if budget is tight.
